campus center
A communal area of the Bertelsmann Campus Center, which contains confernece and meeting rooms where many student clubs meet and hold events.

All students are members of the Bard College Student Association, a democratic forum with three main functions: to raise issues and take appropriate action or recommend action by the College, to provide student representation on administrative and faculty committees, and to administer allocated funds for student-run organizations.

Carnaval, held annually in the spring and hosted by the Latin American Students Organization, is one of the many events throughout the year sponsered by student clubs.

The Student Association Planning Committee allocates and disburses convocation funds, a large portion of which goes to the Entertainment Committee to support campus events. The Planning Committee also allocates funds to more than 60 organizations. A partial list of these organizations would include the Asian American Students Organization, Bard Animal Rights Collective, Bard Film Committee, Bard Debates, Bard Free Press, Bard Journal of Social Sciences, Bard Observer, Black Student Organization, Christian Students Fellowship, Creative Music Alliance, Dance Club, International Students Organization, Jewish Students Organization, Kung Fu Club, Latin American Students Organization, Migrant Labor Project, Model UN, Muslim Students Organization, Outdoor Club, Philosophy Club, Student Action Coalition, Student-Run Theater, and WXBC Radio Station. Students may form new clubs every semester.

Many social, cultural, and political activities take place in various locations around campus. Some of these locations are spaces like Smog , which offers practice and performance space for Bard bands and hosts appearances by touring musical groups, and the Root Cellar, an organic coffee shop and natural foods co-op that presents poetry readings and houses what is reputed to be the most extensive zine library on the East Coast. The Student Action Collective organizes participation in and transportation to political events on campus and locally.
